We’re looking for an energetic & outgoing team member who loves food, wine, cooking and helping customers find their perfect pairing. We’ve an opening for a part time retail assistant. Opportunities for additional shifts may become available, particularly during the peak holiday season (Nov-Dec). Starting pay is $18 per hour.
Weekly schedule will include roughly 10-12 hours per week for the following shifts:
- Friday (noon-530): 5 hrs
- Saturday(930-200): 4.5 hrs (full days during peak holiday periods)
The Cheese Shop Assistant reports to and supports the store manager in day to day operations. They are trained to assist in core cheese shop duties such as customer service and interaction, store sanitation, cutting and maintaining cheese, and the stocking of shelves. Representative responsibilities include:
- A willingness to engage with guests, from enthusiastic welcomes to conversations about their day to making product recommendations
- Being an observant self-starter; you do not wait around for something to do, you are engaged with what is happening in the moment and ready to jump in where needed whether finishing a sale with a guest, making a recommendation, finishing a task started by another team member, on-the-fly clean-up / restocking, etc.
- Operate our iPad-based point of sale system and associated accessories
- Support store cleaning and maintenance, including: dusting, vacuuming, dishes, trash & recycling
- A curiosity of our products; sample and sell cheese, charcuterie, wine, and other store provisions to increase personal knowledge of and familiarity with our products to allow cross-shop pairing of product in response to guest questions and behavior
- Bulk package dry goods; including nuts
- Receive and merchandize inventory
- Cutting & wrapping of cheese and charcuterie
- Stocking of wine and food shelves

- Willing to consume cheese, meat, and wine; we are able to work with minimal or temporary dietary requirements; however, all staff must sample products for training and sales
- Stand for up to 4-hours at a time
- Lift and carrying up to 35-lbs
- Interact with guests of all ages. Manage crowds, communicate with strangers, assess guest needs, make direct eye contact during communication, and propose solutions to customer feedback
- Process complex requests, multi-task, and complete multi-step processes autonomously
- Perform basic math on the fly: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Maryland state law prohibits anyone under the age of 21 from accepting payment for alcohol; all applicants must be 21 on or before the date of hire
- Achieve and maintain ServeSafe certification for selling alcohol (company paid training). Successful completion is a requirement for maintaining employment.
